Allen Lee Lancaster

Allen Lee Lancaster went home to be with his Lord on August 13, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family. Allen was born on September 20, 1939 in Roanoke, Virginia. He was the son of the late Tazwell and Anne Lancaster and was predeceased by his brother, Richard Lancaster.

Allen graduated from high school in 1958 and joined the Navy. He served twenty-three years enlisting as a MR1. During those years he graduated from VPI with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Allen became a Christian through the ministry of the Gideon Bible Society and was called by his Lord into full-time ministry. He graduated from Covenant College with a Bachelor’s Degree and Covenant Seminary with a Master of Divinity. Allen was ordained to ministry on November 17, 1975. He proudly served his country twenty-one years as a Chaplain from 1980 until he retired in 2001 as a Commander. He moved to Suffolk, Virginia in 2003 and he served as Pastor of Liberty Spring Christian Church for eleven years until he retired in 2015. In addition to his pastoral ministries, he proudly served as Chaplain for the City of Suffolk Fire and Rescue.

Allen is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Darlene, and two sons, Taz (Cathy), Travis (Candice) and one daughter, Tracey Lubawski (Steve). They have seven grandsons and one granddaughter.

A burial service will be at Liberty Spring Christian Church on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 10:00 AM. A celebration of Allen’s life will be at Westminister Reformed Presbyterian Church at 11:30 AM by Rev. Rob Slingluff followed by a reception at the church.

Our family expresses our deep love and appreciation for the Heartland Hospice team, Mallory, Carol and Devan who cared for Allen for a short, loving and difficult time.

Our family also expresses our deep gratitude and appreciation for the Suffolk Fire and Rescue family for their overwhelming support of Allen “Chap” as their Chaplain for the past 16 years, as it was one of the greatest honors of his life.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Gideon Bible Society, www.gideons.org/donate. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, is serving the family. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com

Just a few of many memories of Chaps that always bring a smile to my heart: Chaplain Lancaster and I met in jail - the CLNC Brig where we both volunteered - oh how God used him there; SIUC - CLNC graduates' Chaplain (during which I met Mrs. Darlene;) and attending his USN retirement, where he honored Mrs. Darlene by renewal of their wedding vows - I bawled during the whole ceremony. Chaps set such a high bar for humble servant Chaplain and mentor. Simply the best! My condolences for his family and friends, who will miss him.
