Aubrey Richard Whedbee
On August 24, 2020, the beloved Aubrey R Whedbee, 73, passed away at home with his family by his side. Born to Nimville and Beulah Whedbee, he was raised in Suffolk Virginia. He grew up the youngest of six siblings in the small town of Driver. He was predeceased by brothers Nimville “Jr” Whedbee Jr. and George Whedbee.
As an Iron Worker for 35 years and a Lifetime Honorary Member of the Local Iron Workers Union 79 for 52 years, Aubrey worked hard for most of his life. He even held several offices at the Local 79. Coworkers and friends amusingly nicknamed him Augie Doggie. Although he was a hard worker, he also made time for the activities he loved especially fishing, crabbing, and vegetable gardening. Back in the day he was also a volunteer fireman with the Driver Volunteer Fire Dept. Whatever Aubrey did he put his heart and soul into it and his dedication for that shows to this day.
Along with Aubrey’s love for hard work was the strong love he had for his family. He is survived by his wife Margaret Whedbee of 51 years; daughter Shawn Kania and her husband Steve; son Richard Whedbee and his significant other Mary; brothers John Whedbee and his wife Margaret and Jimmie Whedbee and his wife Lou; sister Elizabeth Baker; and four wonderful grandchildren Dylan Kania, Sarah Kania, Sydney Kania, and Kayla Whedbee along with several nieces and nephews.
Though his faith may have been wobbly at times he appreciated being accepted as a member of Berea Christian Church and thanks God for the blessed life he lived.
In Aubrey’s honor a memorial service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at noon at Baker Foster Funeral Home, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, VA 23435. Burial will be private. Following the burial, the family will welcome guests at the home of Margaret Whedbee, 3024 Kings Highway, Suffolk.
The family would like to thank the Virginia Oncology Associates of Harborview in Suffolk VA, and Sentara Hospice Services of Chesapeake VA for their compassionate care. As per Aubrey’s request any memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

I went to school with Aubrey and he was at our last reunion a few years ago. He was always a kind, friendly person. I'm so glad I was able to see him again. My sincere sympathy to family and friends.

Aubrey and my husband Marvin were best friends in their youth. Aubrey was an usher at our wedding and kept asking, "are you really sure you want to do this?" I came to know him as a generous, funny, energetic guy who was crazy about Margaret and eventually "did this" himself. The companions of our youth are forever in our hearts. I bet Marvin and Aubrey are swapping tales and laughing hard. My sincere sympathy to his family and friends. Beverly Outlaw

I was a classmate of Aubrey in elementary and in high school. Aubrey was always considered one of the cool guys by the younger boys growing up. I enjoyed visiting with him and his wife at our 50th class reunion. My prayers for comfort and peace are sent to the family daily during this time.

I also attended high school with Aubrey. We even had a summer school class together at Wilson H.S. He was a good friend to many. It was wonderful seeing him at our class reunion a few years ago. He seemed to always have a smile on his face.

The few times I met Mr. Whedbee, I knew he was good man. I had heard my mom Dorothy Jones say he was a good neighbor. She had told me that he had promised Wilbur, my stepfather that he would watch over her, and help her anyway that he could, as long as he could. He would roll out the trash for Mom each week, until he could no longer do it. He told mom that I lived so far out, it was no need for me to drive all the way from Windsor, just to put out the trash. I would come over to fix something for Mom, and most of the time, she would say Aubrey took care of it. That was just the kind of person Mr. Whedbee was. I know that most all the neighbors in the little town of Driver, will surely miss his kindness and smile. Our prayers are with his wife Margaret and the family. May God Bless R. A. Howell

Brother in-law to Aubrey, we never spent time together due to our geographical locations. As a Christian I look forward to spending time with him in eternity where we will be together. God Bless & Peace with the family.
