Brenda Joyce Oiler

Mrs. Brenda Joyce Oiler, age 80, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2021 surrounded by family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Brenda Oiler was born on July 25, 1941 and cared deeply for helping and serving others. She was a nurse for over 30 years and worked at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio and Chaves County in Roswell, New Mexico. She loved children and drove a school bus for Lakewood School District in the 1970s and was an advisor for the Licking County 4H Band. Brenda was an active church member where she loved to play the bells and volunteer in the nursery. She spent most of her days with her great grandchildren searching for birds and playing ‘house’ and she loved spending time outside and tending to her garden.

Brenda was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and would often have football games on while she cared for her pets and hummingbirds. Brenda’s sweet spirit was contagious, and she had the uncanny ability to find happiness in every seemingly small moment. She gave the tightest hugs and the best advice and was always up for an adventure or a roller coaster. She loved ice cream and pizza and believed in making memories, which is what her father always taught her; to make memories and create moments.

She is survived by her sisters, Gloria (Noel) Williams and Linda (Rick) Caw; her children, Jon (Helen) Furbee, Connie (Richie) Pond; her grandchildren, Tammara (Kenny) Edwards, Sharon (Chase) Hundley, Caleb Furbee, Jacob Furbee; her great grandchildren, Gareth Edwards, Aislinn Edwards, Athena Edwards and Ava Hundley, who will continue to honor her legacy by being grateful for the simple things in life and by loving others wholeheartedly, just as she did.

Brenda was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harley Oiler as she lovingly called her bearded dude; her children, Cheryl Furbee and Robert ‘Bo’ Furbee and former husband Dean Furbee; her mother, Barbara Markle; her father, Harold Markle; her brother, Roger Markle.

Visitation is on December 11, 2021 from 9:00am – 10:00am at Waverly United Methodist Church 138 Coppahaunk Ave, Waverly, VA 23890. The Funeral service will be held at 10:00am with the burial following at Waverly Cemetery 248 Spring Branch Road, Waverly, VA 23890.

Caleb Furbee, Jacob Furbee, Richard Pond, Kenny Edwards, Gareth Edwards and Chase Hundley will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be submitted to Waverly United Methodist Church PO Box 12 Waverly, VA 23890. The family would like to thank Crater Community Hospice for all of the special care and love provided during her time of need and contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, Inc. 3916 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805.
