James G. Austin
James G. Austin, 74, of Suffolk, Va passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022. He is preceded in death by his late wife, Debra P. Austin; parents, Kenneth “Harold” and Betty Austin; brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Austin, Jr.
He was a part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade in the US Army. Garry enjoyed traveling with his late wife, especially historical sites because he loved history. He also enjoyed spending time with the grandkids. He was a reserved and quiet man, so when he spoke you knew not to take it for granted.
Garry is survived by his sons, Patrick Austin and James G. Austin, Jr.; grandchildren, Evan, Alexis, Briana, and Nadia; as well as several nieces and nephews and their families.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Downtown Suffolk Chapel officiated by Rev. Robert Cofield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 4110, Glen Allen, Va 23058.
Words can't express how sad I am at the loss of Mr. Gary. He was such a kind man. He spoke to me any time he saw me. He smiled so brightly. I'll never forget all of the laughs we shared over the years. I've never met a kinder, more gentler person. He will be missed beyond measure.

Gary was a wonderful man and a very special guy. He was kind and quiet, but very approachable and helpful always. We talked about being a paratrooper in Viet Nam, guns, history in general and the Civil War in particular, family history, and our proud shared Southern heritage. I'll not forget his reaction when I assisted him in locating the service records and final resting places of some of his ancestors from the Civil War. Rest in peace, Gary; our faith tells us that we will see each other again.

Will truely be missed. A quiet man with a huge heart. Not to say he did
not have the Austin temper when pushed to his limits. Always willing to lend a hand or offer what ever he had that might help. Garry was full of wisdom and knowledge and always was willing to share an experience that may relate to your situation. A sense of humor that was often well timed. But most of all was a loving son, father, grand father, husband and a true and loyal friend if you knew him. Rest in peace Dad.
