John Raymond Dixon IV

John Raymond Dixon IV, 60, went to be with the Lord on April 15,2019. He was the son of the late  J. R. Dixon III and Evelyn Conner Dixon.  He was predeceased by his daughter Jessica Marie Dixon. 

John was a 1977 graduate of John Yeates High School and attended Ferrum College. After one year of college, John was accepted in the Apprentice School with Newport News Shipbuilding and graduated in 1985.  He began his lifelong career as a machinist with Newport News Shipbuilding and recently celebrated 40 years with the company on April 9 as a Master Machinist.

John was also a member of Boy Scout Troop 43 where he earned the distinction of Eagle Scout. His Eagle Scout Project is proudly displayed at Mount Zion Cemetery in Eclipse,VA. He was also a member of Nansemond Lodge #77. John was a lifelong resident of Eclipse,VA where he made his home.

He is survived by his sisters Nancy Dixon Turner (Taylor) of Henrico,VA, and Maryann Dixon Boho (Lee) of Providence Forge,VA. He is also survived by his children John Glen Dixon, Danielle Louise Dixon, Elizabeth Whirtley Dixon and Sarah Ruth Dixon.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Sallie Penn Godwin (Chance) of Henrico,VA, Taylor Fitzhugh-Turner IV (Alexandra) of Henrico,VA, Zachary Turner (Jaime) of Henrico,VA, Nancy Ruth Turner of Henrico,VA and Frank Lee Raymond Boho of Providence Forge,VA. In addition, he is survived by 3 great nephews and 1 great niece as well as numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday April 27,2019 at 11am at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, 5685 Lee Farm Lane Suffolk, VA 23435 with Masonic rites. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at John’s house after the burial.

John was always smiling! His smile would reach to his eyes and light up his face. Even over the phone you could 'hear' him smiling when he said your name! I am going to miss that. He is going to be sorely missed. To Maryann and the family I am sending my condolences and prayers.
