Karen Jane Casey

Karen Jane Casey (56) of Chesapeake, VA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. She was born in Smithtown, NY to the late Earl (Eileen) Creller and Shirley Creller.

She grew up on Long Island, NY and moved to Endicott, NY as a teen, graduating from Union-Endicott High School Class of 1983. After high school, she attended Bryant & Stratton College for Information Processing Secretarial and later became an Accredited Legal Secretary. In 1987, she moved to Virginia, married and had one daughter, Chelsea, in 1990. In 1995, she moved back to Endicott, NY, then relocated to Gassville, AR in 1999 where she spent 14 years working for the Baxter Bulletin in Mountain Home, AR. She returned to her hometown in New York briefly to help care for her father before he died in 2017. Once she became a grandmother, she moved back to Chesapeake, Virginia in 2019 where she spent the last two years caring for, babysitting and being the best grandmother to her “peanut” and “sweet pea” grandchildren, Isaiah and Adaline.

Karen was known for her friendly smile, her warm hugs, her dedication to any task in front of her, her “eagle eye” ability to proofread, her love of giving gifts and celebrating birthdays and holidays. She was fiercely loyal, honest and straightforward, always standing for what is right and defending it. She was also fashionably late to most occasions in her life. She loved to go to the beach, kayak down the river, swim, lay by the pool, read books and watch old chick flicks. She spent most of her free time in recent years with her daughter and her grandchildren.

Karen dearly loved her family and considered them her greatest joy and blessing. She leaves behind one daughter, Chelsea (Michael) and two grandchildren, Isaiah and Adaline; her mother, Shirley; her stepmother, Eileen; her brother, Scott (Kimberly); her brother, Clint (Sandy); step siblings, Janet, Jim, Richard and Jean; 4 nephews, Kevin, Zach, Tanner and Mason; and 2 nieces, Stacy and Gabrielle. She is also survived by many uncles, aunts and cousins as well as many friends from New York, Arkansas and Virginia who she loved and cherished.

Funeral services for Karen will be conducted at Liberty Live Church in Chesapeake, VA on Monday October 25, 2021 at 2:00pm with a visitation at 1:00pm. She will be laid to rest at Holly Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk, VA following the service. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. Suffolk, VA is serving the family.
