She was a faithful church member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Surry.

She is survived by her children, Ellen Barbour Mauger (Damien) and Anthony “Tony” Seward (Lisa); grandchildren, Rhyne A. Seward, Jeremy L. Barbour was a great friend and mentor to this "newbie" to Surry County. She persuaded me to pick up the game of bridge again after a 50 year absence. She urged me to join the Surry Co. Historical Society, and she introduced me to the joys of the Smithfield Little Theatre.
Barbour was very generous in her giving as well. Even though she was not a member of Surry United Methodist Church, she gave several significant dona-tions to our church over the years.
I feel very blessed to have had her as a friend. Peace to you in your heavenly reward, Barbour.

Ellen, Your mom's heart has touched so many people. Her helpful hands crafted works of art that still hang proud in the rooms of her friends at Waverly. They will greatly miss her. I will miss her in and especially outside work. She'd never hold back on her advice, and always treated me and the kids like her own. I know she's at peace and beyond proud of you ❤️

Ellen, I hope you truly realize how proud Barbour was of you and the girls. She found the love if her life in "Nab" and her DNA carries forward.
Barbour worked her way through the ranks to achieve her nursing license;from nursing assistant, to LPN to RN. In that journey she developed skills and gained knowledge that enabled her to provide compassionate and skilled care to many patients in her charge.
Hold on to her paintings. Hold on to the memories.
