Mr. Blanchard retired from the VDOT Suffolk District Office with 44 years of service.  He served his community as an active member of the Eastover-Wilroy Ruritan Club for many years.  But the greatest joy of his life was serving in many leadership roles at First Baptist Church, Suffolk, for 50 years.

Surviving are his loving wife and babe of 51 years, Merle Kay Riddick Blanchard, his son and wife, Lee and Beth Blanchard, and daughter and husband, Carrie and Ben Purser.  He was Papa to seven grandchildren, Emma Paige, Katie Ann, Timothy, and Esther Blanchard, Ezra, Luke, and Raena Purser, all of Suffolk, VA.  He is also survived by his sister, June B. Lenz of St. Paul, MN, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 2 PM at First Baptist Church, 237 N. Main Street, Suffolk VA 23434 with Dr. Thurman Hayes, Jr. conducting the celebration of life service.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service and burial will follow at the Blanchard Family Plot at Paul’s home church, Warwick Baptist Church, Rt. 32, Chowan Co., NC.  R.W. Baker & Co Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. Suffolk is serving the family. I had the pleasure of working with Paul at VDOT in the mid 70's & enjoyed every day. He was a fine gentleman who always treated me nice. VDOT then had many of those "Carolina Boys" working there. Prayers to Paul's family.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Blanchard and to all the family on the loss of Paul. My husband Louie, met Mr. Blanchard in earlier years as neighbors, seeing each other on walks thru the neighborhood. Their conversations lead to a beautiful friendship. That friendship meant so much to Louie and will remain very deep forever. May God comfort each of you during this difficult time. Our prayers are with each and everyone.
