Phyllis “Jean” Gwaltney Belcher, 87, peacefully went to Heaven on January 15, 2023, after a brief illness. Formerly a resident of Dunlop Senior Apartments in Colonial Heights, VA for over 20 years, she recently moved to Heritage Oaks Assisted Living in Richmond, Virginia.
Ms. Belcher was born in Sussex County, Virginia on April 12, 1935, to Wilfred and Madeline Bush Gwaltney. Beside her parents she is preceded in death by a sister, Maxine G. Harrup.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Tommy Holdsworth (Linda) and Bobby Holdsworth (Cindy), all of Surry County, Virginia, 5 grandchildren, Amy H. Thomas (Steve), Blake Holdsworth (Jenny), Lisa H. Stevens (Jason B.), Sara H. Barrett (Benjamin), and Dalton Holdsworth (Alex), 5 great grandchildren, Kaylin, Cody, Hannah, Ansley, and Hunter, 3 brothers, Russell Gwaltney, Henry Gwaltney (Linda), David Gwaltney, one sister, Donna G. Grinnell, and other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Waverly Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Wakefield Chapel is serving the family. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
