She was born and raised in Novi, Michigan.  She is survived by her parents, Eugene and Erma (Loxen) Smith; her brother, Kim and Debbie Smith, and her sister Gail Beth (Loxen) Schneider.  She is also survived by her loving husband of nearly 44 years, Michael D. McClanahan; her children Daniel Smith, Terri Scott (McClanahan), David McClanahan, Carrie McClanahan and Adam McClanahan; daughters-in-law, Heather Smith and Kim McClanahan; nine grandchildren, Megan Smith, Ryan Young-McClanahan, Ariel McClanahan, Mason Oldfield, Breanna Smith, Alora McClanahan, Shawn Young-McClanahan, Jacob Smith and Noah McClanahan; one great-granddaughter, Kylee Smith, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.

Sherry was a loving person who had a big heart.  Not only was she a devoted wife, mother, and Nana, she was “Mama Bear” to so many.  She overcame so many obstacles through the years but lived her life to the fullest.  We will always carry her love and memories in our hearts.  Special thanks to the staff of Crater Community Hospice for the help and support that was given.  Per her wishes there will be no funeral services held.  In lieu of flowers, donations to any cancer foundation in her honor would be greatly appreciated by the family.

The family is being served by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel where condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.

My dear long time friend you will definitely be missed. I'm so glad we had many hours of riding horses (not to mention cleaning the barn) in our younger years. I have to say when I think back to Better days, these memories pop up first. You taught me all the technical names of the saddle and halter and quizzed me often. You introduced me to pop tarts! Your family always made me feel welcomed.....felt like your home was my second home. So glad we got to get together this summer and it felt like we had picked up where we left off. God rest your soul and we will meet again! Love you!

Thank you for your friendship, love and support these last few years. Thank you for being "Momma Bear" to a pack of wild army boys who never really grew up completely. Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on in hard times. You had the heart and soul of a warrior angel. Mike, you and your beautiful family are in my prayers as always. I pray God gives you all comfort in your time of grief and loss. My heart is with you all.

Thank you my friend for always having an encouraging word during hard times and offering to pray for me when I thought I would lose my mind. I will always remember the fun we had riding our horses, Fella and Flicka. Even though we lived on the opposite sides of the country, you were a wonderful friend. I will see you again when I get to heaven. I will keep your family in prayer during this time of separation from you. I miss you very much.
